Smile!! Hai! How do you feel today? Hopefully, you enjoy your day today. Today, I want to show you different kinds of transitional expressions that you can use in your essay and don't forget to conclude your paragraph with write it right. Peace!!

Using Transitional Expressions

·      Transitional expressions or transitions signals are words that help link ideas in sentences and paragraphs together. They are like road signs that tell you the direction the writer is taking. They help you to understand and follow the writer’s thoughts and ideas better.

·     There are many different kinds of transitional expressions for different kinds of writing.

To add or show sequence

Again, also, and , and then, besides, equally important, finally, first , further, furthermore, in addition, in the first place, last, moreover, next, second, still, too

To indicate place

Above, adjacent to, below, here , nearby, on the other side, opposite to, there, to the east, to the left, between

To indicate time

After a while, afterward, as soon as, at last, at that time, before, earlier, formerly, immediately, in the meantime, in the past, lately, later, meanwhile, now, presently, shortly, at the same time, since, so far,soon, subsequently, then, until, when

To give examples

For example, for instance, that is, to illustrate

To emphasis

Indeed, in fact, certainly

To show contrast

But, on the other hand, however,yet, nevertheless, on the contrary

To show similarity

Likewise, in the same way, similarly

To introduce as a result

Thus, therefore, consequently, hence, then,so

To introduce as a conclusion

In conclusion, in summary, in short, finally

Writing the concluding sentence

·        It is good practice to write a concluding sentence to end your paragraph

·        A concluding sentence can be :- repeating the main idea using different words ;

     

    1.      a restatement of the topic sentence – repeating the main the  idea using different words ;-

Ex : You need to have money to own a car.

   

    2.   a summary of the main points ;

Ex : Owning a car is not cheap because you need to pay for road tax, insurance, maintenance and petrol

    3.  or a suitable general comment.

Ex : Only people with a steady income can afford to own a car
